Sometimes, the spirit to share moves us to action. We are proud that so many people feel inspired to do that extra little bit to help Canadian Feed The Children reduce the impact of poverty on children. Helping doesn't have to be a big deal - but it can have a big impact. Community support happens when caring individuals
decide to make a difference simply by using their own special gifts and
talents. As you can see below, there are many creative ways to make every little bit
help!

John Sharkey donates his time and talent to Canadian Feed The Children in the form of his own music. John plays guitar, bass, drums, harmonica and keyboards, and composes pieces in various styles - from relaxing ambient music for Yoga classes to his most recent project, a short Hip-hop piece for an MBA radio talk show. He is most proud of his volunteer work for worthy charities including a radiothon, telethon and PSA for the Children’s Health Foundation, the scoring for a documentary about music and the arts, and short music clips for Canadian Feed The Children.

Jim Dahl presents a 'Good to the Core' t-shirt, promoting our AppleCheck program, to 14-year-old Alexis, who dropped by the office recently. She donated more than $300 to our Best Gift Ever program for goats, hens, mosquito nets, school uniforms and supplies. Alexis raised the money through friends and family, touched by her endless passion to help others. She recently funded the building of two wells in Africa with another charity, so already has a lot of experience in philanthropy. "To give is amazing. It makes me feel so awesome to make a difference," says Alexis. "And my family is very supportive." Her advice to other young philanthropists? "Just follow your hearts." |

Winnie Clokie (left) was inspired to take action of her own, together with her child's Toronto-area school, to help the children of Haiti. "I was very moved by the stories and pictures that came out of the devastations caused by hurricanes Fay, Gustav, Hanna and Ike that struck Haiti, back in August. As a Blythwood parent with a personal connection with Haiti, I know first hand the plight of its people. I approached Blythwood school with an idea for a fundraising campaign. The principal Mrs Susan Langley and the members of the Parent Student Association were very receptive to that idea. Special thanks to the
caring folks at Blythwood for their efforts to raise funds
for the emergency relief for Haiti." The two-week campaign at the school raised $1300 for Canadian Feed The Children to support the children of Haiti. Thank you Winnie! And thank you to the Blythwood community! |

Young Taphatna Duncan (far right with her mother and sister) of Burnaby, B.C., celebrated her
birthday this year in a unique and generous way. She asked
her friends to take what they would spend on a present and
share it with children living in Haiti’s House of Hope
orphanage. We are so pleased to have been the bridge
between Taphatna’s generous act and the children we
support in Haiti. Thank you Taphatna! Read all about it in

Zoe Chilco (right, leading children's choir) heard about our Best Gift Ever gift catalogue and got inspired. She sat down at the piano and wrote a song. Then she asked her musican friends if they would donate their time and talents. Then she asked producer/ engineer Norm Barker of Studio92 if he would donate studio time and services to record the song. They all said yes, gladly!
We asked a few children we knew to sing with Zoe and the result is a wonderful song that is helping us promote our Best Gift Ever program. Listen and watch now.
At right are musicians (l-r) Norm Amadio (piano), Ron Johnston (bass) and John Deehan (sax), together after the recording.
Our great thanks to Zoe, Norm, Ron, John, Norm and the children for their generosity and support in making great music together on behalf of the children we serve!

Change has come to Canada! On the very day that U.S. President Obama visits our nation's capital, $1400 worth of change has made its way to Canadian Feed The Children from Columbus, Ohio. Mike Padovan, Property Accountant of Easton Town Center in Columbus, Ohio, called our office recently to donate Canadian coins collected through the mall's parking meters. The question became how to transport the 65-pound gift. Our staff pondered the problem until hockey answered the call. The Columbus Blue Jackets were scheduled to play the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thurs Feb 19. Why not ask if the coinage could accompany the team on their plane trip? Blue Jackets Community Development Manager Kate Furman said sure! Mike dropped off the coins to the equipment manager in Columbus and Tanya Mruck of the Toronto Maple Leafs arranged for pick-up here in Toronto. The coins are now in our possession, ready to be rolled, banked and used to provide healthy meals to Aboriginal children as part of our Canadian nourishment programs. Our sincere thanks to everyone involved. Great teamwork!
