Gachette and family House of Hope Nourished At School
Safe and sound
Madsen Gachette, our Country Representative in Haiti, here with one of his two sons, has been organizing efforts since the January 12 earthquake to ensure our funding gets to those who need it in Port-au-Prince. “What I have seen is terrific and unimaginable”, says Gachette. “I thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.” Read more on Haiti here.
A 'Miracle' in Haiti
The House of Hope orphanage was one of just a few buildings left standing when the earthquake flattened the village of Gressier, just outside Port-au-Prince. Orphanage founder and director Alice Barthole says "It was a miracle that all 200 children and staff are alive." They’ve been sleeping outside since the quake and will use our funding for much-needed food, water and power.
Nourished at school
Young students at the Mosquito School, on the Mosquito Grizzly Bear’s Head First Nation reserve near Cando, Saskatchewan, prepare for their performance at the school’s year-end flag lowering ceremony. The school is one of our many partners in Canada that benefit from child nutrition support in the form of healthy breakfasts, lunches and snacks.

Stand Up For Children
Haiti - Help From The Heart
Because of the generosity of our supporters, we’ve been able to send $100,000 so far to Haiti for critical needs such as food and water. The government of Canada is matching every donation made to eligible Canadian charitable organizations in support of humanitarian and recovery efforts in response to the earthquake in Haiti – but only until February 12. Our Haiti emergency appeal closes on February 12 as well, but we will continue to use your support to provide much-needed basic needs and rebuilding assistance to our local partners and the communities we serve. Thank you for all who have contributed to this emergency effort. Donations for Haiti can still be made here.

Message from Jim Dahl

On Tuesday, January 12, I left my office shortly after 5 pm and, driving home, heard the radio announcement that an earthquake of 7.0 magnitude had struck Haiti, with the epicentre being only 14 kilometres from the capital city of Port au Prince. I was stunned and horrified... READ IN FULL

Electrifying Fundraising!
The Canadian Electrical Industry first got plugged into the idea of collectively helping children in 2008, when they raised $200,000 for our nutrition programs in Canada and around the world. In 2009, they raised another $340,000! They are now turning their attention to raise emergency funds for Haiti. Our warmest thanks to every participant and donor for this outstanding effort!

Lucas and Cole

Community caring
Young Lucas (left) of Toronto decided to forsake his birthday gifts this month to help the children of Haiti. He still had his birthday party, but raised funds from his friends for Canadian Feed The Children to be used for humanitarian aid in Haiti. Lucas has an excellent role model for sharing in his older brother Cole (right), who used his last two birthdays to raise money for a goat and a community garden for families affected by poverty through our Best Gift Ever program. Lots of caring Canadians have taken action to help in Haiti, and some are using our new online community fundraising program to reach out. Check out our community fundraisers here.
