Meet Pamela. Here in her Grade 3 sponsorship picture, her happy smile belies the fact that her life did not begin in the happiest of ways. “My father liked to drink alcohol, and sometimes would get violent. My sisters and brothers felt neglected and scared, and so we ran away from home to live on the streets,” says Pamela. When she was only a few years old, her mother would often send Pamela and her siblings into the streets to sing, to try to earn enough to feed themselves. At Alalay, Pamela has found the love, warmth and attention she lacked in her earlier life, thanks in large part to CFTC child sponsors. “Today I am very happy and no longer feel afraid of being hit or of being abandoned, because I am in Alalay with my siblings and they are like my family, like the family I always dreamed I would have.”
