A TRIP OF A LIFETIME TO UGANDA

Last September, seven people embarked on a trip of a lifetime to Uganda with Canadian Feed The Children. Sue Ducheseny, a long-time supporter of CFTC, was one of them. “When this opportunity came up, I thought, wow! I had always wanted to travel to Africa and I liked the idea of going with a group, as opposed to on my own. And I loved the idea of having the chance to visit Canadian Feed The Children’s projects. Just to be able to see how it works and to see if it worked as well as I hoped it did,” said Sue.

Sue is well-travelled, but had never been to Africa. “This was my first time travelling to Africa, and it was a complete shock to me. I knew I would see poverty but I hadn’t envisioned the stark reality of living in mud huts and going to school and sitting in the dirt,” admitted Sue. After spending time visiting the partners and getting to know many of the staff that work in CFTC’s community partner organizations, Sue said, “I didn’t find it depressing, I actually found it amazing that so much is being done and that there is so much enthusiasm. I found the whole experience very uplifting and encouraging.”

While the first week of the trip was spent visiting CFTC partners, the second week was spent on safari. “The safari was incredible. I did really love it, but for me the best experience was meeting the children at the schools. They were just so happy to meet us and had huge smiles on their faces,” Sue said.

Sue has been a child sponsor for years, and in Uganda she had the incredible opportunity to meet her sponsored child and his family. “It was just wonderful to be able to put a face to the whole experience and to know that my support really does help, it really does make an impact,” said Sue.

Canadian Feed The Children’s next donor trip is tentatively scheduled for September 2011, and the destination is Bolivia! Please contact Lisa Doucette-Tassé at 1-800-387-1221 ext. 227 for more information.
