Eshetu’s Story

When Eshetu was 10 years old, his parents both died of HIV/AIDS, leaving him in his grandmother’s care. His grandmother spent her time working as a vendor to support her grandchild. Although Eshetu was enrolled in school, he did not attend regularly as his grandmother’s income was insufficient for her to afford a uniform or necessary school supplies. Eshetu often spent his days alone.

Eshetu was soon identified as a potential candidate for the Wolliso Child and Community Sponsorship project.  He was sponsored and enrolled in Dilela Primary School, where he began Grade 1.

Thanks to the generous support of donors like you, Eshetu continues to receive the opportunity for an education.  He is now a healthy, happy, young boy, currently in Grade 3 and he recently received a dictionary as a gift for being the top of his class.

The obstacles that Eshetu faced were significant, but with the help of CFTC sponsors, we were able to remove many of these barriers from Eshetu’s path. He is now dedicated to his education, and hopes to become a doctor one day.

Before the project I used to be absent from class several times due to lack of uniform and other school facilities, but now thanks to your support I am attending my education without any limitation,” says Eshetu. Education is an integral first step on the path to helping children thrive.
