Children's access to health, education, welfare services, water and sanitation in Ethiopia is, unfortunately, among the worst in the world. With our community partners, we are helping some of the thousands of children living in the impoverished communities of Addis Ababa, Debrehan, Debresina and Oromia.

Preventative and Curative Health Care

We are improving sanitation and hygiene by providing hygiene, sanitation and malaria prevention education, mosquito netting for disease prevention, and educational materials on HIV/AIDS, reproductive health, family planning, sexually transmitted diseases and other related issues.

Education

We are providing basic education for children who have been forced to leave the formal education system or have never started school, and rights education (specifically the rights of women and children); recruiting and training community facilitators; and developing, publishing and distributing educational materials.

Environment

We are providing agricultural training with a focus on natural resource preservation; education on improved soil quality, composting and natural pest control methods; and tree seedlings to address deforestation and erosion.

Food Security

We are providing training, seeds and tools to help farmers diversify vegetable production for improved nutritional intake and additional income; and training, credit and veterinary assistance to enhance farmers' animal production.

Humanitarian Assistance

Thanks to Canadian Feed The Children donors, we were able to respond in the face of devastation caused by floods in the communities we support with food supplies such as maize and oil. The floods hit more than 18 African countries in late 2007 in what the UN called the worst rains in thirty years. See photos of food distribution above under "View Program Pics".
