  • construction of classrooms
  • provisions for teaching and learning materials
  • teacher training
  • bicycles for teachers
  • school lunch programs, nutrition education
  • agricultural training
  • business training and credit services for women
  • construction of school-based latrines, water tanks

Ghana Solar Panel Project

We are very proud to report that, after four years of development, Canadian Feed The Children has installed solar energy kits in Wa, Ghana. The solar equipment now offers the only source of power in the community.

Canadian Feed The Children worked with our program partner Sustainable Integrated Development Services Centre, a technician from Canadian Solar Inc. China, and community members to install the compact units. A new health clinic now has lighting and a refrigerator, which will ensure medicines and vaccines are stored at the appropriate temperature and allow more children to benefit from health care and treatment. It will also be supported by a shipment of medical supplies and equipment from Toronto.

Lighting and a TV/VCR unit was installed in the common room of the new Canadian Feed The Children-funded teacher residence in the community of Goli. · Home to 14 teachers, the residence is located next to Goli's junior and senior schools, attended by more than 400 students. Several training videos dealing with basic health and nutrition are already on order from The British Council and will serve as a vital educational tool for both teachers and students in a school environment that lacks text books.

Another solar unit, used to supply basic lighting and power for a radio, was presented to the principal teacher at the Goli school. The entire Goli community received the solar project with great enthusiasm. Having power will make an important difference to children’s health and education in the community.
