Our work in Haiti

For more than 10 years, Canadian Feed The Children has helped children overcome the many challenges they face in Haiti. Through the years, the struggles of poverty have been exacerbated by natural catastrophes and Canadian Feed The Children has worked closely with the communities we serve, our donors and partners, as well as the Canadian International Development Agency, to help families rebuild and regain the stability they need to create opportunities for their children.

Haiti Earthquake Response

Thanks to the immediate action of Canadian supporters, we were able to wire funds to all of our partners within days of the earthquake. The funds were used to purchase what was critically needed: water, emergency food rations, tarps, tents, soap and medical supplies.

Ongoing support continues to meet basic needs (food, medical supplies and medicine) as well as longer-term rehabilitation (such as reconstruction and capacity building) to strengthen our partners and their communities. More than a year after the tragedy, our continued earthquake response includes:

  • The construction of a new Girls Dormitory at the House of Hope Orphanage, in partnership with the Canadian Auto Workers union, Albert Campbell Collegiate, Ajax Downs & Picov Family, Bernie Schopp and Ve’ahavta
  • Purchase and maintenance of an all-terrain vehicle for House of Hope Orphanage in partnership with Ve’ahavta
  • Construction of a maternity ward at OMES Health Clinic
  • Contribution to the reconstruction of a hospital ward at Grace Children’s Hospital
  • Livelihood support for earthquake victims for the medium to long-term
  • Collaboration with Service Oecumenique d’Entraide (SOE) and the University
of Notre Dame d’Haiti Caritas (UNDH) on a CIDA-funded reconstruction project
